About the Bloggers

  • Susan Harris is a founding member of DC Urban Gardeners. She writes a gardening column called "The Gardening Coach" in two Maryland newspapers and, with her three partners, the award-winning team blog GardenRant. Her services as a Gardening Coach have been featured in the New York Times and on "CBS Sunday Morning."  Susan also co-founded Regional Garden Gurus, dedicated to promoting good regional gardening education online. Visit her website Sustainable Gardening (chockful of information about environmentally friendly gardening practices) and its companion blog, Sustainable Gardening Blog. She was certified as a DC Master Gardener in 2006.
  • Ed Bruske also co-founded DC Urban Gardeners.  He's an award-winning reporter for The Washington Post in a previous life and now a personal chef, caterer and occasional food writer. He lives about a mile from the White House and is in the process of turning his front yard into an edible landscape. Last year, he planned and oversaw the construction of a 1,600-square-foot container garden on a patch of asphalt adjacent to his daughter's charter school, where he helps teach an after-school program about gardening and nutrition. Ed also teaches "food appreciation" part-time to children at a private school in Northwest DC. Ed is committed to a clean environment, sustainable agriculture and political freedom for the residents of the District of Columbia.  He's also a certified Master Gardener.  Visit  his blogs The Slow Cook and Studio City Garden.
  • Lara, Kat and Liz, the Garden Cyclers.
  • Christa Carignan has her own very popular blog, Calendula and Concrete, which was nominated for a 2007 Mouse&Trowel Award for best photography.
  • DC Master Gardener and professional gardener Candy Kessel.
  • You?  We need more regular and guest bloggers to cover DC's gardening and environmental projects and issues.
