    We Are:

    Convinced that gardening MATTERS.

    Bored with perfect magazine gardens.

In love with real, rambling, chaotic, dirty, bug-ridden gardens.

    Suspicious of the “horticultural industry.”

Delighted by people with a passion for plants.

Appalled by chemical warfare in the garden.

Turned off by any activities that involve “landscaping” with “plant materials.”

Flabbergasted at the idea of a “no maintenance garden.”

    Gardening our asses off.

Having a hell of a lot of fun.

Organic Lawns - More Tipping Point News?

The New York Times reports on SafeLawns.org and a yearly doubling in the sales of organic lawn care products - all good news - but a Cornell expert begs to differ on the details.  I'm hoping that Gardenrant reader and Cornell horticulture expert Craig Cramer (aka Ellis Hollow) can sort it all out.

Almost sprayed my first cup of coffee on the keyboard this morning when I read I was a 'horticultural expert'. My reply comment was starting to get a little unwieldy, so I posted it over at my place: http://www.remarc.com/craig/?p=107

Gotta go fetch the snow shovels from the shed so I'm ready for the storm.

Switching to an organic program is lovely, and I'm sure it makes people feel good. However, it's a baby step, not a solution. Until people stop having lawns so big they require gas-powered mowers, and stop watering them all summer long, they're still falling for the Scotts marketing campaign. ... and why would a Cornell prof question the contents of organic fertilizer running off? Like all the 20-20-20 spread everywhere this time of year stays where you put it??? I don't think so.
