A salute to species
My bloom day post can be found here. But since much of the pleasure of this time of the year for me is derived from tulips, and, particularly, species tulips, I offer a group of them above. Three of these are still in bloom. Top: clusiana “Cynthia,” tarda, humulis “Persian Pearl.” Bottom: acuminata, turkistanica, batalini “Bronze Charm.”

Beautiful and unusual, plus I admire your restraint. Everything currently flowering in my yard has blooms as big as a baby's head.

Love the species tulips, keep adding more every year, and also the species iris - exquisite. Both I think are rather neglected in spring gardens.

I've been a species tulip addict for years, starting with Persian Pearl. I've added some along the wisteria arbor in the historic garden and delight in pointing them out to visitors.
