Good news! Two of our favorite scientists - Jeff Gillman and Linda Chalker-Scott - have teamed up, invited some of their comrades, and started up a hort-geek blog. It's called Garden Professors - check it out. Here's Linda's description for us:
We are university professors with expertise in the science behind various aspects of urban horticulture, arboriculture, gardening, and landscaping. Every weekday one of us posts a commentary on something we feel passionately about - and sometimes it's controversial. Follow our debates, and leave your own comments as well!
Here's their About page, where you'll discover their continental scope from Washington State through Minnesota and Michigan to Virginia.

I had a look and must admit, that there is a lot very practical information. Let's see how garden professors will develop in blogging.

Great news! While I am not that familiar with Linda's work, I always learn lots of practical tips from Jeff. I've already subscribed so I don't miss any posts.

Seems to be a great blog however it follows the usual theme that there is no part of the USA except the northern part.

Sarah, if you've got some suggestions of faculty in more southern areas who are doing practical research of interest to gardeners, please let us know! We are looking for more colleagues to bring in.
