Don't you just love these serendipitous little botanical happenings? The contrast of harsh environment with the delicate blooms amplifies the delight.

I just came in from viewing the morning frost in my gardens and found great joy in the scattering of Johnny-Jump-Ups that I found peeking out from small micro-pockets of protection.

Life is good.

I find myself fondly cherishing whatever pathetic bedraggled flower manages to make its presence known at this time of year. This fall has been great for that.

Step on a crack. Break your mother's back. The pavers look like crap. The pansies probably have slug slime on them.

I love finding sweet little surprises like that when venturing through the garden. This year my big surprise was finding the sweet basil, I thought had been killed by heat, had reseeded and is growing all over my garden. I have also found a gardenia that I was sure had died, coming back to life and thriving. My garden surprises me all the time!

Great photo! I have some clumps of purple sweet alyssum (growing deeper in color as the days grow colder) that have popped up in some random spots, reseeding where they will.
