Just in: USDA Fines Scotts the Max for Release of GM Turfgrass

Here’s the link to the press release, and thanks to Mary Ann Whitman for alerting the Garden Writers Listserv.

  1. Um, let me see…

Monsanto (I believe) makes RoundUp-Ready corn and soybeans, so that fields can be sprayed for weeds without hurting the crops.

Scotts is making RoundUp-Ready lawn grass, for the same reason.

Is anyone seeing the future train wreck I’m seeing? Involving a collision between escaped lawn grass and major crops?

Here I sit in the middle of Grass Seed Capital, U.S.A. and I wasn’t even aware of this.
