“Man Named Pearl” on HGTV
Sunday night 8 pm

In a fit of blogger fairmindedness, I'm ignoring all the rants I've written or read about HGTV and recommending you tune in to the channel tomorrow night to see a wonderful movie about the master pruner from South Carolina, Pearl Fryar (reviewed here).

Follow this link to HGTV's blurb about Pearl and the documentary.

  1. I saw a special on Pearl on Ovation TV. It was very good. I am wondering if it will be the same on HGTV.

  2. I saw this documentary on a plane flight. It’s as much about life, long marriages, race, love, family , friends, community, hard work, and neighbors, as it is about gardening. Worth every second.

  3. Thanks for calling this documentary to my attention. HGTV hardly interests me these days with so few gardening programs on; I would have missed it. Now I’ll be watching it. Like others, I saw Erica Glasener’s episode on the Gardener’s Diary with him a few years ago and was entranced by the combination of garden expertise and his ideas about life.

  4. Also watched it last night – very inspirational. The artistry was exquisite. Loved the fact that he inspired the neighbors to do the same. Also, it was quite a pleasant departure from what’s normally featured on HGTV – they need more films like this.
