My Redventure celery is finally red and ready! I cut my first batch of it for an appetizer plate I was putting together to take to our friends’ house. I was about to put some of the celery leaves I had removed into the pot for the worm bin. Then I woke up, and realized these leaves were way too tasty for the worms. Into a cup of vodka they went for a quick infusion. Two days later, the Celery-Infused Vodka was ready, and the Redventure Romp Cocktail was in motion. I decided to up the ante and muddled some of the vodka with a sprig of tarragon for even more savory garden flavor. Also a little lime, turbinado syrup and tonic water. The Redventure Romp Cocktail is quite the light and lively garden cocktail. Redventure celery is part of the Drunken Botanist plant collection. I got my seeds from Territorial Seed Company, and some plants via Log House Plants. Every cocktail garden needs this lovely addition.
Redventure Romp Cocktail
- 2 ounces Celery-Infused Vodka
- sprig of tarragon
- 1/4 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
- 1/4 ounce Turbinado simple syrup
- 2 1/2 ounces tonic water
- garnish of Redventure celery stalk
Muddle the tarragon in the Celery-Infused Vodka in the bottom of a mixing glass. Add the lime juice, simple syrup and tonic water and stir. Strain into your serving glass, and garnish with a stalk of Redventure celery and a sprinkle of finely chopped celery. Add a few ice cubes and serve.
Mix 1 cup of good quality vodka with an equal amount of celery leaves. Taste after one day to be sure it is not getting bitter. I let mine infuse for two days. Strain out the leaves, and pour into a clean bottle.
