Welcome New Ranter Thomas Christopher!

Thomas-Christophe_avatar_1418137314-150x150We’re all pleased as punch to announce an exciting new addition to our roster of GardenRant partners – Thomas Christopher, a horticultural journalist with 30 years under his belt, contributor to the New York Times, the Journal of the Royal Horticultural Society, Martha Stewart Living and many other publications. Thomas has authored, co-authored or edited some mighty fine books (examples below) and is currently working on a book about ecological gardening with Larry Weaner.

Thomas is also a real gardener, having graduated from the New York Botanical Garden School of Professional Horticulture and worked for almost 40 years creating gardens for clients.

In his bio Thomas mentions his interest in heirloom chicken breeds, vintage New England hard ciders, and sustainable lawns (here’s his guest post about a better turfgrass).  But he’s also a stone mason, and I took the liberty of snitching these shots from his Facebook account to prove it.  The photo of Thomas and canine pal on a lake in the Berkshires almost makes me too jealous to look because apparently Thomas and his wife spend their summers there.

So tune in tomorrow for Thomas’s first post as a GardenRanter!

  1. I’ve long been an avid follower of Thomas Christopher since I first picked up “In Search of Lost Roses” and it enticed me and sucked me straight into rose gardening; cemetery roses, old roses, rugosas, and everything in between. His contributions are highly anticipated.

  2. Glad to see you are writing for Garden Rant, Tom. Since I’ve known you since your NYBG student days, I never quite know what you will up to next! Delighted to see the cover of Essential Perennials that proved to be so much fun and an excuse to get together regularly, and with Alan and Linda Detrick, photographers par excellence. I know you’ll find plenty to rant about, so don’t hold it back!
